Frequently asked questions

Starting therapy can bring up many uncertainties, and it's natural to have questions. Here, we address some of the most common concerns and provide insights into how The Live Well Loft supports your mental health journey. Our goal is to make therapy accessible and understandable for everyone.

When will I feel better?

It's important to understand that therapy is a process, and healing isn't always linear. Exploring sensitive or traumatising issues can be challenging, and you might sometimes feel heavy, numb, or that you're not making progress, even as your mind begins to process. We provide tools, new perspectives, and psychoeducation to help you understand your cognitive thinking, certain behaviours, and responses. This process aims to build a toolkit of coping mechanisms and knowledge to help as life goes on. Feeling better often involves gradual shifts and a deeper understanding of yourself.

What if I can't afford the standard rate?

We believe therapy should be accessible. The Live Well Loft offers a sliding scale to accommodate individuals with lower incomes and trainee counsellors looking to gain hours. Please don't hesitate to discuss your financial situation with us; we're here to find a solution that works for you.

Will I have to do things between sessions?

Therapy is a collaborative process. While there's no strict requirement to "do homework," we may explore exercises, reflections, or thought experiments during sessions that you might choose to engage with between meetings. These activities are designed to help integrate new insights into your daily life and deepen your therapeutic work at your own pace.

What if I want a break or to end therapy?

Taking breaks is absolutely fine and a normal part of the therapeutic journey. We conduct regular check-ins, typically every six sessions, to discuss how you're finding therapy and if there's anything we can adjust. If you decide therapy isn't the right fit, or if you feel ready to end, please don't be afraid to communicate this. We can support you by providing referrals to another therapist or alternative resources if needed.

How does therapy help me build coping mechanisms?

Through our sessions, we'll explore your current coping strategies and identify areas where new approaches could be beneficial. By understanding your cognitive patterns and emotional responses, you'll gain the knowledge to build a robust toolkit of coping mechanisms that are tailored to your unique needs, helping you navigate life's challenges more effectively.

What should I know before getting in touch?

It's important to know that while therapy can be incredibly rewarding, it can also be challenging at times. We delve into sensitive areas, and this can lead to complex emotions after sessions. Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for you to explore these feelings. We are inclusive of all backgrounds, ages, neurodivergent individuals, and gender identities.
